Het was eindelijk tijd om aan boord te gaan en we begonnen aan onze expeditie cruise op het schip MS Fram.<\/h3>\n

Na een lange dag met een vlucht van Oslo naar Svalbard en excursies in Longyearbyen was het tijd om naar de haven te gaan om aan boord te gaan van ons schip MS Fram. Van een afstand zagen we het schip in de fjord voor Longyearbyen liggen.<\/p>\n

We zouden niet via de loopplank aan boord gaan, maar met zodiac rubberboten! De zodiacs worden gebruikt om landingen te maken op de verlaten strandjes van Svalbard en we hadden niet verwacht dat we al gelijk bij aankomst in de boten gingen. De MS Fram is een van de Hurtigruten schepen dat bijzonder geschikt is voor het navigeren van de poolwateren, Noord- en Zuidpool. Het schip heeft een lengte van 114 meter en een maximum snelheid van 13 knopen. Er is in totaal plaats voor 276 passagiers. Nu waren er 130 passagiers aan boord, waaronder een dertigtal Noren die een geheel eigen programma hadden.<\/p>\n

Wij hadden een Polar Inside kajuit geboekt zonder raam. Geheel onverwacht kregen we bij het inchecken te horen dat we een dubbele upgrade hadden gekregen naar een Artic Superior met een groot raam. Wat een geluk, want het raam bleek echt heel fijn te zijn. Je kan altijd naar buiten kijken als je even op je kamer bent of even wilt rusten. Ook ’s nachts keek ik regelmatig even achter het gordijn om te zien hoe het weer was of wat voor landschap er aan ons voorbij trok. Het was 24 uur per dag licht, dus was er altijd wel iets te zien.<\/p>\n

Het schip beschikt over 8 dekken, restaurant, hoorzaal, wetenschapscentrum, observatielounge met bar, winkeltje, sportruimte, sauna e twee jacuzzi die het helaas geen van beide deden. Het entertainment op dit soort reizen bestaat uit de wetenschappelijke lezingen en het landschap dat aan je voorbij trekt.<\/p>\n

Na het avondbuffet, het laarzen passen en het ophalen van onze rode Hurtigruten jacks volgde het welkomspraatje. Na de introductie met de veiligheidsvoorschriften, een korte kennismaking met de expeditieleider en de verplichte sloepenrol, was het tijd voor de afvaart en verlieten we even na 9 uur ’s avonds de haven van Longyearbyen.<\/p>\n
